Hi kids,

Mention has been made in the InterWebNet world of my blog, and the fact that I post a lot less frequently on Conservative Party matters. An explanation is, perhaps, rather overdue.

First of all, I should try to post more often. Sorry. That takes care of that subject.

Secondly, Richard is right that I am less partisan on my blog these days. There is a straightforward reason for that. Since March I have been employed in the public sector. It would therefore be inappropriate and a conflict of interests to engage in too much political comment. I’ll dabble from time to time, but I am not in a position to run a blog like Iain Dale’s, or indeed Richard’s.

I hope it’ll still be worth tuning in though, and I will make an effort to be more regular.

Edinburgh

I'm off to Scotland's capital today. If I have half as much fun as I did a few weeks ago, then it will be something of a disappointment.

Phoney Guy

My mobile phone has bust. I've got a new one, and have kept the same number, but I've lost some (and yet not all) of my contact numbers.

I'll email friends if I can't manage to download the info from the old phone (it's only the screen that's gone) onto my laptop. If you texted me last night or this morning, I won't have got the message.

We apologise for any inconvenience.

Actually, Actually

Well, I rather enjoyed myself on Radio Oxford. Danny Cox is a lovely guy, and I think I did pretty well. I did use the word ‘actually’ a bit too much, but that serves as a useful reminder that maybe we shouldn’t be too mean to people in the public eye who have verbal tics – it is harder than it looks and sounds you know!

Danny’s show is really good. I’d very much recommend tuning in.

Face For Radio

I am being interviewed about my embryonic comedy career on Radio Oxford tomorrow (i.e. Tuesday 15th August) at about 10.40 am. It might be best to tune in a little earlier than that.

The Result

An excellent stand up called Holly Walsh won the heat, and very much deserved to do so.

I had a below par performance. My set-ups to jokes can be a bit too long, and unfortunately I was bored of my material. But nothing I saw in Edinburgh persuaded me to give up, and I’ll be back.

‘So You Think You’re Funny?’ Semi Final

On Saturday I travel up to Edinburgh for Sunday night’s semi final (there are several semis) of the competition ‘So You Think You’re Funny?’. I’m really looking forward to it, although God knows I’ll be nervous (and am already a bit).

The Gilded Balloon, who runs the competition, has some promo stuff up on it. You can see it, and me, here. Thanks to Diane for the photo - little did she know when she took it that it would end up on the InterWebulator!

I had a five minute slot at the Bullingdon in Oxford last night. It’s one of Silky’s Kill for a Seat shows, and I really can’t thank him enough. He gave me my first ever gig, my second one and my two latest ones. Moreover, he’s been immensely supportive and encouraging. He also happens to be bloody funny and a top man. So there.

I was happy with my set, and it was nice to go back and do better than I felt I had first time round at the Bully.

I was joined on the bill (I should say I joined the bill that starred) Sarah Millican, Gary Delaney, Guy Venables and Ben Norris. All were excellent, and I was reminded, again, how friendly comics are. Gary has a website, which I have added to my links. He was fantastic – it’s absolute gold if you have the ability to produce a string of great one liners.

Please say a prayer, cross your fingers or do whatever you do for luck for Sunday’s semi final.
