Tonight's debate at the Oxford Union, to which I was really looking forward, has been cancelled.
I'm crushed.
But two good things emerge. First of all, it helped clarify something I have really been struggling with in the last couple of years - how to get the balance right between ad libbing and using planned material. I have realised that preparing something original in the lead-up to each gig is the way to keep my performance fresh whilst also having properly developed ideas.
And the disappointment I feel this afternoon is a further reminder that I know what I want to do with my life - get up in front of crowds and make them laugh.
